Johnson’s Failed Fashion Bid: Blunt Confirms Casting Attempt

Date:

Dwayne Johnson recently shared an entertaining story about his unsuccessful bid to join a major Hollywood sequel. The action star disclosed that he pitched himself for The Devil Wears Prada 2, expressing his complete willingness to wear size 15 heels. This revelation demonstrates Johnson’s commitment to challenging himself artistically and exploring genres beyond his action-hero comfort zone.
Johnson’s campaign occurred during filming of The Smashing Machine, where he stars alongside Emily Blunt in a biographical drama about MMA fighter Mark Kerr. As Blunt simultaneously worked on the Devil Wears Prada sequel, Johnson approached her about the possibility of joining the cast. He envisioned portraying a character with fashion knowledge and effortless appeal, someone who would naturally integrate into the franchise’s sophisticated environment.
Blunt corroborated Johnson’s story, directly confirming his casting attempt and acknowledging he made a legitimate effort to secure a position in the film. Returning to the franchise with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, Blunt responded to Johnson’s interest with characteristic humor. She playfully remarked that Johnson would look attractive in heels, showcasing the friendly dynamic between the two stars.
Though Johnson’s advocacy proved unsuccessful and his fashion film bid failed, Blunt ensured he remained connected to the sequel’s production. She sent behind-the-scenes videos from the New York City set, particularly footage captured before stepping onto streets filled with onlookers. Johnson recalled these updates fondly, noting the atmosphere resembled the frenzy typically reserved for pop music star sightings.
Directed by David Frankel and adapted from Lauren Weisberger’s novels, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is scheduled for May 1, 2026. The original film premiered at the LA Film Festival in June 2006 and left a lasting impact on cinema. While Johnson’s fashion film bid failed, Blunt’s confirmation of his genuine attempt highlights the supportive nature of their professional relationship.
