Oscars 2026: Academy Recognition Goes to Anderson and Coogler Films

Date:

The 98th Academy Awards nominations were unveiled this evening by Lewis Pullman and Danielle Brooks, with recognition going primarily to two films. Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” and Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” received the most comprehensive acknowledgment.
Academy recognition for both films spanned multiple categories and branches. “One Battle After Another” received nominations for its direction, adapted screenplay, and ensemble performances. The film’s technical achievements in cinematography and sound design also earned recognition, demonstrating its excellence across all filmmaking aspects.
“Sinners” received equally substantial recognition from Academy voters. Coogler’s direction earned acknowledgment alongside the film’s visual achievements in cinematography and production design. Strong performances from Michael B. Jordan, Delroy Lindo, and Wunmi Mosaku secured acting nominations, showcasing the cast’s depth.
Other films receiving Academy recognition include “Marty Supreme,” “Hamnet,” and “Sentimental Value,” each earning multiple nominations. The diversity of recognized work reflects cinema’s current breadth and vitality. However, the complete absence of Neeraj Ghaywan’s “Homebound” from all categories represents a significant oversight.
Mark your calendars for March 15, when the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles hosts the 98th Academy Awards. The ceremony will air at 7 p.m. ET on ABC, where recognized films will compete for Oscar victories.
