Abu Dhabi has activated a new smart traffic signal system designed to ease congestion and improve road efficiency. The AI-powered technology uses sensors and cameras to monitor traffic in real time, automatically adjusting signal timings to regulate vehicle flow.
During peak hours, the system restricts vehicle entry at key junctions, while allowing more movement when roads are less busy. This adaptive approach enhances mobility, reduces congestion, and improves overall road safety.
The initiative currently covers seven major entry points along Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Street, including Shakhbout bin Sultan Street, Dhafeer Street, Hadbat Al Ghubeina Street (outbound), Salama bint Butti Street, Al Dhafra Street, Rabdan Street, and Umm Yafina Street (inbound).
Authorities highlighted the project as a significant step toward creating a sustainable and efficient transport network that meets the growing demands of the city’s residents and economy.
