Dubai drivers face fresh traffic disruptions as construction of the multi-billion-dirham Metro Blue Line project moves forward. Authorities confirmed new road closures and diversions around key metro stations to facilitate ongoing work.
Access to the multistorey car park at Centrepoint Metro Station from Airport Road has been sealed, with traffic redirected west of the car park via 49C Street. Commuters have been urged to plan journeys in advance and follow diversion signs for smoother travel.
In addition, routes near Dubai Creek Station have been adjusted, including the closure of a service road and the introduction of a temporary alternative. The duration of these diversions has not yet been specified.
The closures add to earlier measures, including the shutdown of 63rd Street near Dubai Academic City and diversions in the Mirdif area. These steps form part of preparations for the Blue Line, which will open in September 2029 to mark the Metro’s 20th anniversary.
The Dh20.5 billion project will add 30 km to the network, with 14 new stations linking major communities such as Mirdif, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Creek Harbour, and International City. Of the extension, 15.5 km will run underground. Once completed, the Metro system will span 131 km with 78 stations.
The expansion supports the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, aiming to enhance connectivity across five key regions: Bur Dubai/Deira, Downtown/Business Bay, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Marina/JBR, and Expo City Dubai.
