UAE Denounces Houthi Risks Impacting Saudi Economic Stability and Business Interests

Date:

The United Arab Emirates has issued a forceful denunciation of recent remarks made by the Houthi group, which included threats of enforcing a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement urging the global community to ensure adherence to pertinent United Nations Security Council resolutions that are crucial for addressing the situation in Yemen and ensuring maritime security in the Red Sea region.

The statement from the UAE ministry underscored the importance of Resolution 2216, which pertains to the conflict in Yemen. Additionally, it referenced Resolution 2722, which focuses on safeguarding navigation rights and the freedom of movement in the Red Sea. These resolutions are pivotal in maintaining stability and security in the region, according to the UAE’s perspective.

Highlighting the significance of international law, the UAE reaffirmed the principle that freedom of navigation in international waters is enshrined under international conventions, particularly citing the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The convention provides a framework that ensures the free movement of vessels and the protection of maritime passageways, which are critical for international trade and security.

Furthermore, the UAE expressed unwavering support for Saudi Arabia, emphasizing its solidarity with the kingdom. The ministry stated its backing for all actions necessary to safeguard Saudi Arabia’s security and stability, reflecting the close ties between the two nations. This statement comes as tensions continue to escalate in the region, highlighting the UAE’s commitment to regional peace and security.
