UAE-Germany Talks to Focus on Economic and Business Partnerships

Date:

The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is set to embark on a state visit to Germany on Wednesday, aiming to bolster the enduring strategic partnership that exists between the two nations. This visit will see Sheikh Mohamed engage in discussions with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The conversations are anticipated to center around the diversification of cooperation in economic, investment, and developmental areas, as well as deliberating on regional and international matters of mutual concern.

Diplomatic relations between the UAE and Germany have been in place for over fifty years, having notably deepened since the two countries established a strategic partnership in 2004. Reflecting the strength of their economic ties, bilateral trade surpassed $15.5 billion in 2025, and approximately 2,000 German businesses have operations within the UAE. Energy collaboration remains a focal point of their partnership, with the upcoming visit occurring in the wake of high-level talks held in Abu Dhabi earlier this year. These discussions explored avenues to enhance their strategic energy alliance and to broaden cooperation in fields of shared interest.

The economic relationship between the UAE and Germany has been invigorated by heightened private-sector participation and the development of initiatives geared towards promoting trade and investment among German and Emirati enterprises. Furthermore, their collaboration extends beyond economics, encompassing education, vocational training, culture, and tourism. German educational and cultural institutions have established a presence in the UAE, contributing to the growth of new vocational programs designed to advance skills development and facilitate professional exchanges.

This state visit is anticipated to further solidify cooperation across these diverse areas, reinforcing the comprehensive strategic relationship between the UAE and Germany. Sheikh Mohamed’s trip underscores the ongoing commitment of both nations to fortifying bilateral ties and exploring new avenues for partnership in the future.
