The Unanswerable Serve: How Sabalenka’s Biggest Weapon Sealed the Title

Date:

While her groundstrokes are formidable, it was Aryna Sabalenka’s unanswerable serve that formed the bedrock of her 6-3, 7-6 (3) US Open final victory. Time and again, especially under pressure, her biggest weapon delivered, leaving Amanda Anisimova frustrated and unable to make inroads.
Throughout the match, Sabalenka used her serve to dictate play and win quick, confidence-boosting points. Even when her first serve wasn’t landing, the threat of its power forced Anisimova to play conservatively on return. Sabalenka’s ability to hit her spots with both speed and accuracy was a deciding factor.
This was most evident in the crucial moments. Serving at 5-6 in the second set, with the pressure mounting, she produced a calm and confident hold to force the tiebreak. Then, in the breaker itself, she landed clutch first serves that immediately put Anisimova on the defensive, allowing her to control the final points of the match.
Anisimova, a great returner in her own right, simply had no solution for Sabalenka’s delivery when it mattered most. It was the one shot that remained consistently dominant, the ultimate safety net that allowed her to play with aggression and seal her fourth major championship.
