Wales, NI and Ireland Set for Crucial Playoff Showdowns on Road to 2026

Date:

The European playoff draw for the 2026 World Cup has set the stage for a dramatic qualification race involving Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Each team must navigate difficult semi-finals before dreaming of the finals.
Wales will host Bosnia & Herzegovina in Cardiff, a tie that appears favourable following their explosive 7–1 win earlier in the week. With home advantage and strong recent form, Wales will enter the match full of confidence.
Northern Ireland, on the other hand, must travel to Italy for a daunting away test. Italy’s recent drop in form might provide a slim opportunity, but their historical strength makes this one of the toughest fixtures in the draw.
The Republic of Ireland head to Prague to face Czech Republic. Fueled by Troy Parrott’s incredible goal-scoring form, the Irish believe they can return home with a chance to host the playoff final.
Elsewhere in the playoff bracket, Ukraine will battle Sweden while Poland take on Albania. The inter-confederation draw also produced enticing matchups featuring Jamaica, Suriname, DR Congo and Iraq, all set to compete in Mexico.
