In a profound act of compassion and foresight, President Sheikh Mohamed, on Wednesday, ushered in a wave of hope and relief for 222 Emirati citizens, waiving debts totaling over Dh139.8 million just ahead of the joyous occasion of Eid Al Adha. This monumental gesture, facilitated through the Defaulted Debts Settlement Fund, stands as a testament to the UAE’s unwavering commitment to its people, particularly its most vulnerable.
The beneficiaries of this extraordinary initiative include a significant number of retirees, whose golden years will now be unburdened by financial worries, and individuals receiving social support, empowering them with renewed dignity and economic stability. For 132 retirees, the weight of approximately Dh86.4 million in debt has been lifted, allowing them to embrace their retirement with peace of mind. Simultaneously, 90 citizens under the social support umbrella will find liberation from Dh53.4 million in repayments, paving the way for a brighter future.
This move is not merely a financial transaction; it’s a powerful statement about the UAE’s dedication to fostering a society where every citizen can thrive. By easing financial burdens, President Mohamed is actively promoting social welfare and accelerating development, ensuring that no one is left behind. This echoes a similar impactful decision made before the UAE’s 53rd National Day last year, when Dh401 million in debts were cleared for 1,277 Emiratis, demonstrating a consistent and profound commitment to the well-being of the nation. These acts of generosity illuminate a path towards greater prosperity and a stronger, more resilient Emirati society.
