Trump Declared ‘Fully Fit’ for Presidency After Physical Exam, Drops 20 Pounds and Scores High on Cognitive Test

Date:

WASHINGTON, April 14 — Former President Donald Trump has been declared “fully fit” to serve as commander-in-chief following a recent comprehensive physical exam, according to his physician, Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella. At age 78, Trump is the oldest person ever elected to the presidency — a title he reclaimed after defeating incumbent Joe Biden — and he is now gearing up for another term with a clean bill of health.
In a three-page medical summary released Sunday by the White House, Trump was reported to have lost 20 pounds since his last presidential checkup in 2020, reducing his weight to 224 pounds and bringing his Body Mass Index (BMI) down to 28.0 — now placing him in the “overweight” category instead of obese.
Barbabella, a decorated Navy doctor specializing in emergency and tactical medicine, oversaw the examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The report emphasized Trump’s “robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and general physical function,” and praised the president’s active lifestyle, which includes regular golf games and a packed schedule of meetings, media events, and public appearances.
“He is fully fit to execute the duties of Commander-in-Chief and Head of State,” Barbabella concluded.
The exam also revealed that Trump had previously undergone cataract surgery in both eyes and had a colonoscopy in July 2024, which found a benign polyp and diverticulosis — a common, non-serious intestinal condition in older adults.
Trump again aced the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), a widely used screening test that evaluates memory, attention, language, and other mental functions. The former president, who once famously listed, “Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV,” as part of the test, said afterward, “I got every answer right.”
The report noted Trump’s cholesterol levels had steadily improved over time, now standing at a healthy 140 thanks to medications including rosuvastatin and ezetimibe. His blood pressure, measured at 128/74, is slightly elevated but not concerning. His resting heart rate was a healthy 62 beats per minute.
The president’s current medications include low-dose aspirin to reduce stroke and heart attack risk. Minor skin sun damage and a few benign lesions were found, but nothing alarming. The exam also confirmed scarring from a July 2024 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, during which Trump survived a gunshot wound to the ear.
While Trump has repeatedly questioned President Biden’s mental and physical health, he has often kept his own medical details private. However, this recent disclosure appears aimed at reassuring the public and addressing age-related concerns, especially ahead of the 2024 presidential race.
“I think I did very well,” Trump told reporters mid-flight to Florida after the checkup. “I felt I was in very good shape. A good heart, a good soul — a very good soul.”
The report, though lacking specific recommendations, stated that some minor lifestyle advice was given to the president. Trump didn’t elaborate, but emphasized his commitment to staying active.
Capt. Barbabella is the third consecutive osteopathic physician to serve in the role and has served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He holds both the Purple Heart and the Legion of Merit — two of the military’s most prestigious honors.
As Trump approaches his 79th birthday in June, the report underscores a key political narrative: that age does not diminish his capacity to lead.
