UAE Businesses Brace for Economic Impact of 48°C Heatwave

Date:

The United Arab Emirates is bracing for a surge in summer temperatures, with forecasts predicting inland areas could reach up to 48°C in the coming days. Meteorologists at the National Centre of Meteorology anticipate stable weather conditions throughout the country, characterized by mostly clear skies and light to moderate winds, with little expectation of significant weather changes.

Temperatures on Friday are projected to vary significantly across the nation. Inland regions might experience highs between 44°C and 48°C, whereas coastal and island areas are forecasted to see temperatures ranging from 36°C to 43°C. In mountainous regions, temperatures are expected to be slightly cooler, ranging from 32°C to 39°C. Winds are anticipated to blow from the southwest to northwest at speeds of 10 to 20kph, occasionally gusting up to 30kph. The Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman are expected to maintain slight sea conditions.

This pattern of hot and predominantly clear weather is likely to persist through the weekend. On Saturday morning, low clouds may develop over parts of the eastern coast, while wind speeds could temporarily increase, reaching up to 40kph. By Sunday, a minor drop in temperatures is expected as northwesterly winds gain momentum, potentially leading to rougher sea conditions in the Arabian Gulf, though the Sea of Oman is forecast to remain slight to moderate.

The outlook for Monday and Tuesday suggests similar weather conditions, with predominantly clear skies, occasional morning clouds along the eastern coast, and periods of stronger winds. Sea conditions are anticipated to improve gradually as the new week progresses. Meteorologists have indicated that the UAE is entering a phase typical of early summer, with extremely hot daytime temperatures, clear skies, and generally stable atmospheric conditions.
