UAE’s National Media Office Warns Against Social Media Misconduct, Emphasizing National Values

Date:

The National Media Office (NMO) of the UAE has issued a strong reminder to social media users about their responsibility to uphold the country’s values of respect, tolerance, and coexistence. Stressing the importance of ethical digital behavior, the office warned that any violation of these principles—especially content that disrespects national symbols, public figures, or allied nations—will result in strict legal consequences.

The NMO reinforced that the UAE’s digital landscape must remain a safe and respectful space, free from misleading information, hate speech, or defamation, whether direct or implied. Those engaging in such acts will face legal penalties, ensuring that online interactions align with the nation’s ethical and legal framework.

The statement also highlighted that every Emirati plays a role in safeguarding the country’s image. Echoing the sentiments of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the office reminded citizens that their digital presence directly reflects their national identity. “Every action, whether positive or negative, shapes the reputation of our country. We are all responsible for preserving its honor and standing,” the President stated.

Social media users were urged to act responsibly, verifying content before sharing and reporting any offensive or non-compliant material through official channels. The NMO emphasized its ongoing efforts to monitor violations and take appropriate actions in collaboration with relevant authorities.

Reaffirming the leadership’s vision, the statement called on individuals to align their online behavior with the UAE’s foundational values. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, has outlined key principles for a responsible Emirati digital presence, including demonstrating knowledge and cultural awareness, maintaining respectful dialogue, and refraining from offensive language.

The NMO concluded by reminding all users that social media is a powerful tool that should reflect the UAE’s ethics, wisdom, and progressive identity. Those engaging in online discussions must uphold the nation’s dignity, ensuring their digital footprint contributes positively to the country’s global reputation.
