UAE’s Vice President Reveals Best and Worst Government Departments in Bureaucracy Reduction Drive

Date:

In a significant move to streamline governance and enhance efficiency, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has announced the results of a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing bureaucracy. The assessment ranked the best and worst-performing government departments based on their responsiveness and service improvements over the past year.

Launched in late 2023, the initiative sought to evaluate government entities on their ability to cut through red tape and provide seamless services to citizens. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that the goal was to eliminate unnecessary administrative hurdles, ensuring a smoother experience for the public.

Recognizing the top achievers, the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure emerged as the best-performing entities. These departments were praised for their proactive approach in simplifying processes, making government interactions more efficient, and prioritizing citizen convenience.

However, not all institutions met expectations. The Emirates Post, the General Pension and Social Security Authority, and the Ministry of Sports were ranked as the least effective in reducing bureaucratic inefficiencies. Addressing these departments, Sheikh Mohammed advised that government systems, no matter how entrenched, can be transformed through decisive action and strategic reforms.

He further highlighted the pitfalls of excessive bureaucracy, stating that it often prioritizes procedures over results, paperwork over service delivery, and rigid rules over creative problem-solving. Stressing the need for innovation, he urged officials to rethink traditional methods and embrace agility in governance.

This bold evaluation serves as a call to action for all government bodies, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to efficiency, transparency, and progress.
