The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has expressed its support for a recent call by the United States for an immediate and unconditional humanitarian truce in Sudan. This statement aligns with renewed international efforts aimed at achieving a political settlement to the ongoing conflict in the African nation.
Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of State, emphasized the UAE’s commitment to supporting global initiatives aimed at ending the hostilities in Sudan. He highlighted the importance of establishing a political process that would lead to the formation of a civilian government, underlining the need for protecting civilians and addressing the worsening humanitarian situation.
In further support of these efforts, the UAE has advocated for the expansion of the existing United Nations arms embargo to cover the entirety of Sudan’s territory. The UAE argues that such a measure could play a crucial role in reducing the flow of weapons and enhancing protection for civilians caught in the conflict.
The UAE has pledged to continue its collaboration with international partners to facilitate a political resolution and alleviate the suffering caused by the ongoing strife in Sudan. This commitment reflects the broader international community’s concern over the deteriorating conditions in the region and the urgent need for a comprehensive political dialogue.
