UAE, Germany Leaders Discuss Economic Collaboration in Berlin Talks

Date:

In a significant diplomatic engagement, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan engaged in high-level discussions with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier during his state visit to Berlin. This visit underscores the strengthening ties between the United Arab Emirates and Germany, a relationship that has been evolving for over 50 years and gained substantial momentum following their strategic partnership agreement in 2004.

The meeting delved into enhancing cooperation between the two nations, focusing on shared interests such as promoting enduring peace in the Middle East and bolstering regional security and stability. Sheikh Mohamed emphasized the mutual commitment of both countries to broaden their cooperation and foster their collective interests.

In addition to the talks with President Steinmeier, Sheikh Mohamed’s visit included an official reception at Villa Borsig, where he interacted with senior German officials and made a ceremonial entry in the guestbook. His itinerary also featured a visit to the Bundestag and a tribute at the Neue Wache war memorial, highlighting the cultural and historical elements of the trip.

Further discussions are anticipated between Sheikh Mohamed and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, focusing on advancing collaboration particularly within the economic and development sectors. The two countries are poised to sign agreements encompassing areas such as artificial intelligence, energy, and investment, reflecting the burgeoning importance of their economic relationship.

The diplomatic relations between the UAE and Germany, established in 1972, have seen a substantial increase in bilateral trade, which surpassed $15.5 billion in 2025. This state visit, the first by a UAE president to Germany, marks a pivotal moment in the deepening partnership between the two nations.
