UAE-Germany Bolster Economic Partnership with Enhanced Business Collaborations

Date:

The visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Germany underscores the growing strategic alliance between the two nations. This relationship has flourished over several decades, fostering collaboration in political, economic, energy, and cultural domains. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1972, the UAE and Germany have nurtured a robust bilateral relationship, which has seen substantial growth, particularly in trade and investment.

Trade between the two countries surpassed Dh57 billion ($15.52 billion) last year, positioning the UAE as Germany’s foremost trading partner in the Gulf region. There are approximately 2,000 German companies operating within the UAE, including prominent entities like BMW, Siemens, ThyssenKrupp, and Deutsche Bahn, marking a significant presence in the Middle Eastern market.

The energy sector is another pivotal area where UAE-German cooperation has intensified. Both nations have embarked on joint efforts in renewable energy, climate action, decarbonisation, and energy security. A notable milestone in 2022 was the signing of an agreement that aimed at bolstering energy security and industrial collaboration. This includes UAE’s supply of liquefied natural gas to Germany and collaborative clean energy and climate projects.

Beyond the realms of trade and energy, the UAE and Germany have long engaged in mutual endeavours in research, technology, infrastructure, and cultural exchanges. The bilateral ties were further solidified in 2004 with the formalization of a strategic partnership agreement. This agreement addresses key areas such as regional security, economic cooperation, and research initiatives, reinforcing the political relationship between the two countries.

Despite facing various global political and economic challenges, the bond between the UAE and Germany continues to thrive. Both nations remain committed to enhancing their cooperation across strategic sectors, demonstrating the resilience and depth of their partnership. The enduring strength of UAE-German relations is evident in their ongoing efforts to expand and deepen collaboration across multiple fields.
