Thailand is making strides in bolstering its international aviation links through strategic collaborations with Vietnam Airlines and flydubai, alongside modernizing its regional airport infrastructure to enhance connectivity and support the tourism sector. This initiative sees new routes and services being introduced to cater to the growing number of travelers.
Vietnam Airlines has introduced a new flight service connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Phuket, which commenced on July 2. This route operates four times a week and offers an annual seating capacity of approximately 39,500. It is designed to accommodate the increasing travel demand from Vietnam, which saw over 300,000 visitors head to Thailand in the first six months of the year.
In a parallel development, flydubai initiated daily flights between Dubai and Bangkok starting July 1. The airline has plans to ramp up this service to twice daily from September 15, thereby enhancing the air connectivity between the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.
Additionally, Thailand is set to implement the Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) at its regional airports. This move aims to improve air traffic management, operational efficiency, and facilitate access to secondary cities. The AFIS system is scheduled for initial deployment at Phrae and Phetchabun airports by 2028, with prospects for future expansion to other regional airports.
