Iran’s Gulf Attacks Deemed Ineffective, Impacting Regional Economic Stability: UAE

Date:

Anwar Gargash, a diplomatic adviser from the United Arab Emirates, has criticized Iran’s approach of targeting Gulf states and Jordan, labeling it ineffective. He has called for pragmatic and sustainable political solutions to resolve the ongoing regional tensions. Gargash emphasized that the current state of “neither war nor peace” is untenable and called for immediate measures to reduce hostilities, along with the normalization of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. His remarks follow a resurgence of Iranian attacks on regional targets amid heightened tensions with the United States.

On August 31, the UAE Ministry of Defence reported intercepting an Iranian drone over its territorial waters. The ministry also dismissed claims from Iranian media asserting that Al Minhad Air Base near Dubai had been struck by missiles, confirming that the facility remains in a high state of readiness. This incident underscores the escalating conflict in the region and the urgent need for resolution.

Gargash highlighted that any enduring solution must consider both the political and economic ramifications of the conflict. He was critical of a previous memorandum of understanding, arguing that it failed to present a viable and acceptable roadmap for resolving the crisis. His statements reflect the UAE’s commitment to pursuing de-escalation and seeking diplomatic avenues to restore stability and normalcy in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz continues to be a focal point in this dispute, with disruptions to shipping threatening regional economies and global energy markets. Recent attacks and retaliations have further strained efforts to restore maritime traffic and revive diplomatic talks. Gargash’s comments underscore the necessity of a diplomatic framework to ensure regional stability and secure commercial navigation routes.
